(Grand Island, Neb.) — A Lincoln man was discovered dead with a gunshot wound to his torso at Fonner Park in Grand Island.
Grand Island Police and the Fire Department arrived at the horse stables on Stolley Park Road in response to an unconscious man report, where they found the body of Todd Scherer, a 62-year-old from Lincoln.
The authorities apprehended Logan Huntshorse, a 20-year-old from Wounded Knee, S.D., for murder after discovering him asleep in a separate tack room in the same barn. According to GIPD Captain Dean Elliott, they found a handgun believed to be the murder weapon.
The motive for the crime remains unclear. Fonner Park released a statement expressing condolences to Scherer's family and shared their shock at the tragic loss of the beloved horseman.
The Grand Island Fire Department, Kearney Police, Nebraska Racing and Gaming staff, and the Hall County Attorney's office all aided in the investigation.
