Continuing consequences of California's severe winter and early spring weather are being felt as Yosemite National Park will be closed to the public starting Friday night due to concerns of flooding in the area. This closure is expected to last until Wednesday, May 3, and may extend beyond that date, according to the National Park Service.

Yosemite National Park
The park was previously closed for over three weeks due to heavy snowfall, with more than 15 feet accumulating in less than a month. While the snow was a welcome relief after years of drought, its rapid melting could create a flooding hazard.
In the meantime, Yosemite National Park has warned that snow is likely to persist and could continue until July, leading to wet and muddy trails. Hikers are advised to exercise caution, as snow-covered trails may be difficult to follow, and they should rely on maps and GPS to navigate. The park is providing full refunds to individuals who have made reservations for lodging or campsites, which will be canceled automatically.
