A former law enforcement officer from southeast Nebraska, Steve Julich, has been sentenced to pay a fine of $250 along with court costs and fees, after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.

Julich, who was the Fillmore County Sheriff during the time of the incident, appeared in Seward County Court on Wednesday. The charge was lessened from DUI to reckless driving as per the plea agreement.
The sentence was given in relation to a single vehicle crash that occurred in March 2022, for which Seward County Sheriff's deputies responded. Julich was the only person present in the car when the police arrived, and they could smell alcohol on him.
Despite claiming that he was not driving, the authorities believe otherwise based on their investigation. Julich was running for re-election during the incident, but he was defeated in the primaries by Steve Roemmich, who was elected into the role officially in November.
